Fuzz Boxes and Jangly Guitars

ImageImageGreg Noga arrived on the burgeoning bay area music scene in the early 70’s bent on carving a niche in the universe that captivated him like a warm hug. He credits the excitement of the omnipresent Top-40 radio of the day and a routine ‘inoculation by phonograph needle’ for assuring his sustained passion for fuzz boxes, jangly guitars, and deep two-part harmonies. Over the years the flame that was first sparked by the British Invasion and stoked by the success of a local Garage Rock scene that yielded the likes of The E-Types, Count V, Syndicate of Sound, and the Chocolate Watch Band grew to a full fledged eternal flame that continues to burn to this day. Noga’s presence on rhythm guitar, his strong sense of melody and engaging vocal style has made him a key asset to the bands he has helmed. Those bands, Back Alive and Jeri Rigg were staples of the northern California music scene performing a rootsy, often British influenced rock, tirelessly rambling up and down the state for nearly twenty years. They released well-received recordings that widened their loyal audience, aided in their growing notoriety and propelled them up the ever-challenging ladder of musical success.

On stage Noga’s rarely found without a Fender Telecaster or Rickenbacker, straight into a Vox AC15. As a songwriter he employees a piano or his prized Gibson …acoustic guitar. Personal experiences, social injustice, and life’s ups and downs appear as reoccurring and critical themes to his music. Noga’s songwriting and recording experience eventually garnered invitations to join two prominent bay area recording studios where he spent a number of years as a staff engineer and producer. Today, he focuses mostly on songwriting, now working and recording primarily in his own vintage equipped space known a Basque Studios. The flame still burns as Noga continues to create and add to his portfolio of songs, write for other artists and record with his friends.
